ISB Verified

Show buyers you meet their small business standard, wherever you’re based.

Every buyer defines “small business” its own way. We don’t replace their definitions. We give you an independent verification that your business meets the one you need.

Pre-qualification takes less than 3 minutes. Most applications take about 20 to 25 minutes once your documents are ready, because your documents do the typing.

How it works

Five steps, and your documents do the typing

  1. Pre-qualify

A few quick questions tell you right away whether you should apply. Under 3 minutes.

  2. Create your account

Just your name, email, phone, and the partner organization you’re applying through, if any. About 1 minute.

  3. Upload your documents

We read your tax returns, payroll records, and state certificate, and fill in your business details for you.

  4. Review and finish your profile

Check what we found and fix anything that’s wrong. Some profile questions are already answered from your documents.

  5. Submit and get your decision

A real person reviews your file and makes the decision: within 2 weeks if you already hold a certification, or within 4 weeks if you don’t, once we have all your documents.

Upload your documents once. We fill in the rest.

Have these ready

  • Federal tax returns for the last three years
  • A certificate of good standing from your home state, dated within 60 days
  • Formation and ownership records
  • An affiliate disclosure
  • Your last four quarterly payroll forms (Form 941) or a payroll report
  • Your latest financial statements and bank statement
  • Any existing small business certification

How we handle them

  • Documents are read by a secure document-reading service that does not use them to train AI and deletes them within 30 days.
  • You see every detail we found, and where we found it, before you submit.
  • An analyst checks each detail against your documents before any decision.
  • If a document can’t be read, you can type those details instead.

What you get when approved

  • A one-year ISB Verified letter naming the standard applied
  • A listing in the ISB Verified directory, which invited buyers and partners can view
  • Free access to resources and tools matched to your business

What it is not

  • A state or SBA certification
  • An ownership-based or identity-based certification
  • A bid preference. If your own state offers a small business certification, you should still get it.
  • A new or national standard. We don’t create, replace, or rank any buyer’s definition, and each buyer decides how to use your letter.
Whose standard applies

Meet buyers where they are

Every corporation, state, county, city, institution of learning, hospital, and public agency defines “small business” its own way, with its own tests for size, revenue, location, independence, and good standing. We don’t create, replace, or rank those definitions. We check your business against the one that matters to you and provide an independent, third-party verification that your business meets that buyer’s definition. ISB Verified is designed for businesses that are small and independently owned under the buyer’s standard they need to meet.

At the start, you tell us which buyer or jurisdiction you want to do business with. Then a real person, not an automated system, reviews your file and makes the decision.

Before you apply

  • Check with the buyer first. Ask whether they accept an independent small business verification. If they don’t, share this site with them and suggest that they do. Please note that ISB Verified can’t promise that any buyer will accept your letter or award you a contract.
  • It’s a snapshot. Your letter confirms your business met the standard on the review date, based on the documents you provided. It’s valid for one year, and a buyer may still do its own checks.

Fees

Annual fees range from $150 to $1,050. Your application fee is determined and shown before you submit your application.

Expedited review, with a decision within 1 week once we have all your documents, is available for an additional $250.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a decision take?

You’ll get a decision within 2 weeks if you already hold a recognized certification, or within 4 weeks if you don’t. The clock starts once we have all your documents. With expedited review, the decision comes within 1 week.

What documents will I need?

Federal tax returns, a certificate of good standing, formation and ownership records, an affiliate disclosure, a payroll report, and recent financial statements. You’ll see the full list before you start.

How are my documents read?

A secure document-reading service reads each document and fills in your application. You review everything it found before you submit, and a real person checks it against your documents before any decision.

What if something it found is wrong?

Edit it on the review screen. The person reviewing your file sees both what the document says and the change you made, so nothing gets lost.

What if a document can’t be read?

Handwritten or very faint documents sometimes can’t be read. When that happens, you type those details instead.

Who sees my documents and answers?

Only the ISB Verified team. To fill in your application, your documents are read by a secure document-reading service that does not use them to train AI and deletes them within 30 days. Buyers and partner organizations never see your documents, tax returns, or answers.

What if my business doesn’t pre-qualify?

You’ll see which requirements are not met. You can complete a pre-qualification any time.

What if I’m not approved?

You’ll get a clear explanation of what your current verification issue is.

Is this a certification?

No. It verifies that your business meets small business classification standards. It is not an ownership-based or identity-based certification.

How can someone confirm my letter?

Anyone with your letter’s QR code or verification ID can confirm on our website at any time that it is valid, along with the standard applied and its valid-through date.

How long is my letter valid?

One year. You renew each year with your latest tax return and updated information.

Will my business be listed anywhere?

Approved businesses are listed in a private directory that only invited buyers and partner organizations can see. You can turn your listing off at any time.

What if my business changes?

Send us an email at followup@isbverified.com with your verification ID so we can start a conversation to update your file.
